Afro house
House with African drums and chanted vocals. Groovier, a little slower, all hips.
- Tempo, BPM
- 118–124
- Where it started
- South Africa, 2000s
What it sounds like
House built on African percussion: hand drums, shakers and layered rhythms instead of a plain hi-hat. Vocals are often chanted or sung in Zulu or other African languages, and the melodies are hypnotic rather than catchy.
